This research will focus on the ACMP program, which delivers informal mentorship among secondary and post-secondary Afro-Caribbean Black (ACB) students (ages 16-29). The study seeks participants involved in ACMP programming in Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, and the Caribbean. The study is designed in a way to understand the social and educational experiences of English-speaking Afro-Caribbean Black (ACB) youth and their participation in the ACMP programs. This study aims to understand how the ACMP fosters safe social spaces for learning through mentor-driven, youth-centred, anti-racist, anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, culturally safe, and gender-supportive ways for students. The study will support the ACMP’s educational success of ACB students who are inspired to cultivate the tools and skills necessary to navigate and address the potential impacts of racialized inequities experienced in secondary and post-secondary settings. The study contributes to restorative a community of practice and producing and disseminating knowledge about ACB student experience.
Dr. Clarke is the founder of the ACMP and is conducting this research to understand and make sense of ACMP workshop participants’ experiences utilizing the ACMP.
