Post Secondary survival guide

Have you been stressing a bit about what post-high school life is like? We are here to ease your anxiousness and walk you through everything from applying to post-secondary institutions, important university tips such as how to study properly? The African Caribbean Mentorship Event (ACMP) is putting together a significantly informative event October 24th, for anyone interested but worrying about post-secondary institutions, particularly in Ontario.

This event is open to all students from high school.

In doing so, we will be preparing students for what is to come in their next big steps after high school. Not everyone has parents who attended post-secondary; this is a guide for students who do not know what they are walking in on. It is a positive transition with the guidance of a university student (Lindsey), and a recent alum (Ream). We can pass on what we know and ease some anxieties you may have.

Guiding questions:

What program are you guys thinking of applying to?

What interests do you have in terms of academics?

What are you nervous/excited about for post-secondary?

I am a Caseworker for a housing first program, for young men aged 16-24 years. My background is in gender studies, criminal law and philosophy of knowledge. I studied sex work and human trafficking policies. Currently I focus on what it means to be a man, and how to become that man. I think that is relevant in my personal life, I provide workshops and trainings for other people, and also hope to contribute to the ACMP using that expertise. Email me: Jan@weareacmp.com
